Devastating Critical
Vanilla Devastating Critical kills the target outright on a failed Fortitude save. In Wyrdwood this is replaced with a bonus damage system.
How It Works
When a Devastating Critical triggers:
- The instant-kill does not happen.
- The target makes a Fortitude save with DC =
10 + (attacker level / 2) + attacker STR modifier. - Bonus damage is applied as a percentage of the original hit's damage:
| Save result | Bonus damage |
|---|---|
| Saved | +10% of hit damage |
| Failed | +25% of hit damage |
The bonus damage is dealt as physical weapon damage and ignores damage reduction.
Notes
- Bonus damage is never zero; it rounds up to a minimum of 1.
- Floating text on the target shows the result ("Dev Crit saved: +X (10%)" or "Dev Crit failed: +X (25%)").
- The attacker also receives the message in their chat window.
- This applies to all creatures with the Devastating Critical feat, not just players.
