Blackguard
The Blackguard is built around dark divine power, poison, and fiendish might. Several of its abilities scale with Blackguard level, and the class gains new powers deep into its progression.
Class levels
Wyrdwood caps the Blackguard at level 40. Level thresholds below refer to your Blackguard class level, not your total character level.
Hellfire (level 20)
A signature weapon buff that wreathes both of your weapons in hellfire for 1 turn per Blackguard level (1 turn = 1 minute). It adds scaling fire damage on hit:
| Blackguard Level | Fire Damage |
|---|---|
| 20–29 | +2d10 |
| 30–39 | +3d10 |
| 40 | +4d10 |
Greater Smiting (levels 25 & 35)
The Blackguard is automatically granted a Great Smiting epic feat at level 25 and again at level 35, increasing the bonus damage of your Smite attacks. (These are granted for free on top of any Great Smiting feats you select normally.)
Bull's Strength
The Blackguard's Bull's Strength grants its usual Strength bonus plus an attack bonus of +1 per 6 Blackguard levels — reaching +6 at the level-40 cap.
Divine Might & Divine Shield
Both abilities gain extended duration at higher levels (the Charisma bonus itself is unchanged — only the duration scales):
| Blackguard Level | Duration |
|---|---|
| 20–29 | ×2 |
| 30+ | ×3 |
Epic Fiendish Servant
The Blackguard's summoned servant scales with class level:
- Below 9: Succubus
- 9–14: Vrock
- 15+: a Vrock (a stock demon)
- 15+ with the Epic Fiend feat: instead of a stock summon, you call a fiendish duplicate of yourself wearing a Vrock's form, scaled to your Blackguard level + 10. This clone lasts about 5 minutes, cannot be looted for gear (its equipment is stripped and bound), and only one can exist at a time.
