Ranger

The Ranger keeps its stock chassis — favored enemies, free two-weapon feats in light armor, an animal companion, and a small spell list. Wyrdwood changes one thing about the class itself, and adds a set that builds on it.

Favored Enemy

The base game gives you +1 damage against a favored enemy, improving by +1 for every 5 ranger levels — so +5 at ranger 20. That's flat physical damage, and at the levels this module plays at it disappears into damage reduction and rounding.

Wyrdwood adds a second bonus on top of that one:

+1d6 damage per 10 ranger levels against any of your favored enemies, in your weapon's own damage type.

101d6+2~+5.5
202d6+5~+12
303d6+7~+17.5
404d6+9~+23

This applies to every ranger, with no gear required, and it rewards the favored enemies you already chose at level-up rather than replacing them.

It scales on ranger levels, not character levels

Matching the stock rule that the bonus "does not improve for the harper," only ranger levels drive the dice. A Master Harper who has favored-enemy feats keeps the base game's bonus but doesn't gain the Wyrdwood one.

It won't show on your character sheet

Your sheet keeps reporting the stock +1-per-5-levels figure. The extra dice are added to the hit itself, so they show up inside the combat log's damage figure rather than on the sheet — and because they are part of the same hit, an armored enemy's damage reduction is charged against the swing once, not once per bonus.

Animal Companion

Your companion is scaled to your level automatically when you summon it — ability scores, attack, armor class, saving throws, weapon enhancement, damage reduction and regeneration all rise with you, and it gains immunity to mind spells at effective level 20 and permanent haste at 25.

Beyond that, the companion's main upgrade path is your own Greater Magic Fang (ranger level 3 spell), which the Wildheart set improves substantially.

A full six-piece Wildheart set goes further: your companion is summoned in its apex form — a bear comes back as an owlbear, a hawk as a griffon, a panther as a displacer beast — each far stronger than the animal it grew out of, and each with a signature ability. The full table is on the gear sets page.

Gear

The Ranger's class set is Wildheart. It amplifies the favored-enemy bonus above, turns Greater Magic Fang into a far stronger companion buff, summons your animal companion in its apex form, and — at six pieces, in light or no armor — grants an extra attack each round.

The gloves carry bonus ranger spell slots at levels 2, 3 and 4. Because ranger spells stop at level 4, that's the entire top of your list rather than just its tip.
